Jenkins Electric is Hiring a Transformer Technician Near Shelby, NC

Description

Jenkins Electric, a Charlotte-based electro-mechanical repair company, is looking for a Transformer Technician. This is a ‘job-shop’ environment that requires operation of manual equipment for a wide range of applications, as well as mechanical assembly and alignment work. Candidates for the position must be mechanically inclined, with a demonstrated aptitude for mechanical measurement. Experience in a similar transformer shop or electric motor shop environment is a plus. Welding experience is a plus.

Requirements

  • Be coachable and understand this is a learned skill, that requires hands on training from experienced team members.
  • Burn-out, disassemble and accurately record winding and tap data for transformer rewinds / repairs. Check winding data provided by applications engineer for reasonableness. 
  • Work with transformer engineer to develop optimal design for transformer & identify materials requirements.
  • Wind transformers and coils accurately per transformer design worksheet. Use materials efficiently. 
  • Manufacture, repair and/or assemble transformer cores and frames (normally includes use of iron cutter).
  • Accurately label, test, dip / VPI and re-test completed transformers / coils. Clean to ensure good, finished appearance.
  • Complete projects within a reasonably acceptable range of hours while maintaining a high level of workmanship.
  • Prepare completed parts / equipment for shipping and notify foreman / manager of project completion in a timely manner.
  • Work together with foreman / manager and co-workers to meet production / sales goals for your department.
  • Perform regular maintenance on the company equipment and tooling that you use. Maintain and secure your own work tools. Leave shared equipment and tooling clean, operational and in its assigned location after use. 
  • Notify department foreman / manager of equipment, tooling and material needs in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain a clean and well-organized work area.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Basic reading, writing and some advanced measurement and arithmetic skills. 
  • Basic computer literacy. Familiarity with use of mouse and keyboard.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams and/or mechanical drawings as required by your position.
  • Ability to use the following tools / equipment: coil winder, electrical test tools, test panel, VPI, iron cutter, punch, lugger, drill press, hoist and forklift.
  • Physical coordination required for operating machine controls and power tools. Strength to lift up to 30 pounds.

  • Be willing to perform other tasks (not listed above) as assigned by Foremen / Managers. An attitude of "that's not my job" conflicts with our goal of serving our customers in a timely manner and will not be tolerated. 
  • Share knowledge with co-workers that will help them complete their work efficiently and correctly. 
  • Maintain a positive attitude and a professional and courteous relationship with co-workers. 
  • Maintain a record of consistent attendance and be willing to work overtime when asked. 
  • Stay on task during work hours. If you do not have anything to work on, see your foreman / manager for direction.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and represent the company favorably in interactions with customers and vendors.
  • Provide on-the-job training and mentoring to new employees. 
  • Use proper safety equipment (steel toed boots, safety glasses etc.) and procedures. Alert management to safety issues.
